Melanie Jayne Lynskey

Melanie Jayne Lynskey (born 16 May 1977) is an New Zealand actress. She is known for playing funny, soft-spoken and headstrong characters, and works predominantly in independent films. She has received a New Zealand Film Award as in addition to a Hollywood Film Award as well as the Sundance Special Jury Award. Lynskey's first film role was the teenage murderer in Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures (1994). After making the move to the United States, she built an acting career by playing supporting roles in various small- and big-budget films, like Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But I'm a Cheerleader (both 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000), Abandon, Sweet Home Alabama (both 2002), Shattered Glass (2003), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Away We Go, Up in the Air, The Informant! Leaves of Grass (all 2009), Win Win (2011) Looking for an Friend at the End of the World, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (both 2012), They Came Together (2014) and Don't Take a Look Up (2021). Lynskey received a nomination for the Gotham Award as Breakthrough Performer and was praised by critics for her character as a divorced, depressed woman in Hello I Must be Going (2012). This was an important moment in her career. Her subsequent lead roles include Happy Christmas and We'll Never Have Paris (all 2014), The Intervention (all 2016), Rainbow Time, Little Boxes, I'm Not At In This World Anymore (both 2017), Lady of the Manor (2021), Sadie (2018), and Lady of the Manor (both 2018) made her an important player in the American independent film scene. Outside of film, Lynskey achieved fame with her portrayal of Rose in the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men (2003-2015). From 2015 to 2016she was a character on Michelle Pierson on the HBO series Togetherness in which she was nominated for the 2015 Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress. Megan, and Beatrice on the Cartoon Network's Over the Garden Wall (2014) were the voices. (2016-2018). She was also the star in Molly Strand, the first season of Hulu's Castle Rock (2018). Rosemary Thomson starred in Mrs. America on FX (2020).
